52 Weeks of #Pinterest FAQ Page…

I’m getting really excited about starting this challenge. I don’t know if it’s because of the idea of doing the projects… or maybe seeing what I can do. :)

Trust me… my family, friends and coworkers are going to be some happy people as I do this – especially the weeks that I choose recipes. I know I sure can’t eat all of those tasty treats on my own.

So in light of the challenge starting… I came up with questions that have been asked over the last couple of weeks.

And feel free to take the blog button to share about the challenge! :)

What is Pinterest?

“Pinterest is a virtual pinboard. Pinterest allows you to organize and share all the beautiful things you find on the web. You can browse pinboards created by other people to discover new things and get inspiration from people who share your interests.” (quote from Pinterest website)

I started out using Pinterest as simply a dream board. Now it is complete with fashion looks I’d like to try out, recipes I want to make, crafts I’d like to do and places I’d like to travel… just to name a few things.

What is the true point of Pinterest? I just don’t get it…

Each person uses Pinterest in their own way, but the point is to utilize it with link backs to websites or blog posts for ideas of things that you want to do, buy, make, remember, etc. Some people use it to share things they remember or their favorite books, bands, places, etc.

The point is to pin things that are right for you. Not to simply get things re-pinned.

What is repinning?

Repinning something is simply taking something another person has pinned (because you want to remember to do it or because of it’s awesome-ness) and putting it on one of your own boards.

My only caution is that when you are repinning something, you will want to make sure the link goes to where YOU expect it to go. Some people choose to pin things to a general blog (rather than the tutorial post that you are looking for) or just the picture (which is truly annoying). If the link isn’t something that you can find back easily – don’t repin it because it’ll only lead to frustration when you want to try that project out.

What is this 52 weeks of Pinterest Challenge you started?

A number of weeks ago, I was getting frustrated at myself for continuing to pin items to the various boards… and not do anything about it. So I started a challenge for myself – and hoped that others would like to join me in it.

The challenge is simple. Do *something* that you have pinned (or repinned) to one of your pinterest boards. The something doesn’t matter… can be a place you’ve travelled to that week, something new you’ve crafted, a new recipe… or maybe even a home improvement project! The challenge is just doing something!

When does the challenge start?

The 52 weeks of Pinterest Challenge starts Monday! I’m SOOOO excited about this. You can post anytime during the week, but there will be one link-up here each weekend.

How do I link up?

Each Saturday morning (Will be scheduled to {hopefully} open at midnight Eastern Time) you can link up your post from anytime that week.

Throughout the challenge, you can also link up your pinterest page here so that we can be following all of the people that are in the challenge. Be sure to check back here for anyone new! :)

What if I miss a week? Can I still participate?

Absolutely! We all know that life gets in the way sometimes… and each of us have things come up at the oddest of times. If you miss a week… no biggie, just pick up and come back the next week with another great project!

Can I have extra points for starting early?

Unfortunately I don’t have “points” to give out yet… but as soon as I do, sure! :)

Are there sponsors for the 52 weeks of Pinterest Challenge?

As of this writing (9/2/2011), there are no sponsors for this link-up – however if you know of anyone that would be interested in sponsoring a post or becoming a weekly sponsor they are welcome to contact me at dutchbeingme@gmail.com. Also, in my dream world I would be to find a sponsor that could “reward” each of us that completes all 52 weeks… but as I said, that’s just a dream right now. ;-)

I’ve never heard of Pinterest before… but this sounds like fun – how do I get started?

Currently Pinterest is by invite only – and anyone that is in Pinterest can send an invite to you. If you are looking for an invite, either leave a comment below or send me an email! :)

#Pinterest Challenge starts in 2 weeks…

Are you ready?

I wanted to give a couple of helpful hints for everyone that I’ve already utilized as I’m preparing for this challenge. :)

1… Check the links for the items you have re-pinned from others. I’ve found a few items that don’t go directly to the post I’m looking for, so I either edit the link or delete the pin if it’s seemingly too hard to find the right link.

To edit the link: Go to the pin you are looking to change the link for & click on edit. Right below the description box is the link box – simply change the link to what you need it to link to.

2… Create a special board for the 52 weeks of Pinterest. :) Ok, you really don’t have to, but it’s much easier to remember when you did a project if they are all in one place.

3… I’m going to do a variety of items, but they are all going to be things that are cost efficient with things that are fairly easy to find. I’ve already started hitting up the clearance section at Michael’s and JoAnn’s and have 3 ideas ready to go.

I have the button for the 52 weeks of Pinterest Challenge… go ahead and take it and spread the word. Can you imagine all of the ideas we are going to walk away with after this year?!? YAY!

Just a couple things to remember as we do the projects…

  • You can do any project that you have pinned or repinned to your pinterest page… just remember to credit the originator (as best you can tell) of the projects.
  • You can post the project on your blog anytime during the week… however the link-up will only be open from Saturday morning to Sunday evening each week. :)
  •
And in the interest that I want to follow everyone’s pin boards on Pinterest throughout the project (and because I’m having issues checking to see if I’m already following everyone!)… link up your Pinterest page below. This link-up will last the duration of the challenge so you only have to link up here once!

I know that there are a couple of people that have already started some Pinterest projects (Letters for Lucas and Four Plus an Angel, I’m looking at you!) so I thought I’d create a link-up for this week as well so we can all be inspired by the creativity already flowing! :)

So are you ready? In 2 weeks the challenge will start… :)

    #Pinterest52: A brainstorm…

Last night I was once again planning ways that I could actively do things with these things that I continue to pin on Pinterest. After all, I don’t just want to remember these things for sometime later in the future (well, yes, some of them I do) but rather take advantage of the ideas and really share what can be done!

Just pinning things on my boards is not doing me any good anyway.

I was thinking about doing 365 days of Pinterest like I’ve seen with Kirsty, but Julia so kindly pointed out that life really does get in the way sometimes… and made me think that maybe a daily challenge wasn’t quite right for this kind of thing.

So I’m starting a weekly challenge for myself and others.

Starting with the first full week of September, do something that you’ve pinned on @Pinterest…  document it on your blog (anytime that week) and link up here on Saturday/Sunday. (The linky will be open all weekend.)

*When sharing the project on your blog, make sure to give credit to the original presenter of the recipe/craft/idea with a link back to that post if at all possible. We don’t want anyone to be accused of stealing here. :)

    So what do you think?

Can you make something like this…

Brownie Chunk and Chocolate Chip Cookies

    Or do something like this…

    Drifted Pearls Scarf

Or travel to somewhere like this…

    Taj Mahal : India

    Or read something like this…

    Water For Elephants

Who’s up for my #Pinterest52 challenge? Let me know in the comments below! :)

*If you are not currently on Pinterest and want to check out all of it’s awesome-ness, just let me know in the comments… or send me an email at dutchbeingme (at) gmail (dot) com and I’ll be sure to get an invite out to you!
