From Greece to Egypt…

I went on a little road trip a few weeks ago. I loooooove road trips (which is why this is linked up with “Things I Love Thursday” too.) 1432 miles, 23.5 hours in the car and 6 states later in a matter of 4 days. It was a whirlwind of a weekend that was fun, exciting and a great opportunity to knock another thing off my 101 in 1001 list! :)

It was a great time to clear my head, really think about life… what I want to do and how I want to do it. Although I can honestly say I’m just as confused about all that as when I left.

Or maybe it was the confusion about where I was?

I mean, after all… I started out in Louisville (pronounced Lou-i-ville, not Lou-e-ville, for those that aren’t familiar) and got to meet up with Dianna and Angie for a crazy-lady-filled-dinner. And trust me when I say we weren’t the crazy ladies.

Here’s the quick {long story short} version of what happened:
We sat. We chatted. We pondered the menu. Dianna ordered Hummus. Angie arrived. We ordered our food. Random Lady walks in & comes up to our table. Random lady asks if there is fish on the hummus. (Um, really?!) Random Lady just stands by table. Julie, Angie & Dianna are uncomfortable. Random lady falls over. Dianna & Angie come to the rescue. Random lady is awake but will not speak. Ambulance & Fire trucks are called. Emergence personnel arrive. Random lady now speaks in full sentences as if nothing happened. Julie lost her appetite after the whole ordeal.

Yeah.

So then I said goodbye to Dianna in the parking lot of Krispy Kreme (oh my goodness, so yum)… and continued my travels southward to Nashville for a visit with Leigh (and then further to Memphis to see Liz on Sunday).

Or maybe I should say Greece… and Egypt? See for yourself in the little slideshow I created to highlight my trip!! :)

And while I was gone… my 18-month-old nephew taught my brother how to bowl.

Have you done anything fun this summer?

    The fried pickles! I die!

Leigh, she needed to try the SLICES!! I bet with enough dipping sauce, she could have fallen in love! ;-)

So Memphis = the Pyramid, a horse and an ice box. Nice!

SO glad you put in the long haul and toured the Mid-South, Julie! It was so great to see you!

Agreed, Liz. The slices might be a different experience but she doesn’t like pickles in the first place so I’m not sure there’s hope for Julie ever understanding my obsession. At least she tried one!

As Leigh said, I’m no fan of pickles anyway – so I’m not sure the slices would have provided a different outcome. :)

And yes, it was soooooo good to see you too. Thanks for showing me all around! Now I want to live on Mud Island. ;-)

You are right… Lou-a-ville. how could i get that wrong?! Ha!
      I wished I had planned better… but I’m sure we’ll see each other soon… hopefully! :)

Hmmm …. me thinks I need to video me and Angie saying Loo-ah-vul. That’s the super phonetic way we say it, and we’ve both lived here for over 20 years.

Is Natalie from the ‘Ville as well?

        So glad you came by!

I’m so glad that I could do it… so much fun spending time with you… drinking fruit tea… hanging out… the ice cream… the cardboard boxes on the ceiling of the restaurant… there are so many things that I didn’t even cover! Thanks for being such a great hostess!

What a fun road trip! I was going to ask about the pickle, but then I read the comments and saw that you obviously weren’t a fan :(

Also, after I saw you talking about this on twitter yesterday, I went back through my old posts and found my own Parthenon pictures. I don’t mean to link back to my blog in your comment, but I thought you might kind of get a kick out of the pictures, and I’m too lazy to upload to flickr.

I don’t mind the link! :) I just couldn’t believe there was that huge statue of Athena either. That was so crazy!

It’s funny that I first knew Greece existed in the US when I watched Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief. lol. And they say pop culture is rubbish. Your slideshow is pretty awesome though. I like. Swinging by from Sunday Funday!

Oh man… I think I would’ve lost my appetite too! Did you ever find out what happened to Random Lady? Was she having a seizure or something?

I think she was a certifiable nut job ….. but there were some things that happened that you just can’t fake. (I’ve been a nurse for 18 years) She was sweaty and clammy — you can’t make yourself diaphoretic. Personally, I think she needed to be checked out, but she refused to go with EMS. Bizarro.

I wonder what was going on with Random Lady? That’s just weird.
OK, I like fish… I like hummus… but together? NO THANKS.
