Every weekend this happens. I’m overly motivated to get things done when leaving work on a Friday… just ready to say that I’m attacking life in a storm of productiveness {complete with a list}. Even on Friday night sometimes I can get things done with this amazing power I have.
But the the motivation seems to hide it’s face from me for the remainder of the weekend.
Blog posts I wanted to write.
Cleaning that really has to get done.
Emails to be returned.
Letters to be written.
Groceries to be gotten.
And it all seems to fall by the way side in lieu of laying in my nice warm bed watching a movie that I’ve seen a hundred times… all the time thinking that I *could* be cleaning while watching this.
But I don’t get up.
I don’t change anything.
Or if nothing else, I open my laptop to see what’s happening with twitter.
And any motivation that I had to do anything before, slips away while I connect with my friends.
The way a weekend should be.

Agreed, that’s exactly how a weekend should be, especially an extra-long one!
I wish I could say that my weekend was “extra-long” but my office is open today (even though the industry is closed)… so I’m back at it. Motivated or not. LOL
so true! Glad I’m not the only one who does that
I’ve just been trying to figure out why I’m so un-motivated. I need my mojo back… hopefully it’s not tied to sunshine.
This sounds just like me. I have laundry to do and dishes piling up but it’s the weekend and I want to do *fun* stuff!
Exactly! I want to do “fun” stuff too… like talk on twitter and just waste time. Which is exactly what I did… for the most part. Now I sit and wish that I had actually gotten more done. Or at least one room organized!
I am totally the same way. Every Saturday and Sunday, I start out with the most motivated intentions in my head. Then a cup of coffee and a few hours of twitter later and the day is gone! Ahhhh, weekends
.
I’m so glad I’m not alone in my un-motivation over the weekends! One of these weeks though, I really do *need* to be productive. Otherwise things might get a little out of control!
I need a weekend like that…one where I can sit down and be entertained by trivial things without the guilt eating away at me.
Oh don’t get me wrong… the guilt totally ate away at me on Saturday. By Sunday morning I had accepted the fact that I was not going to get anything *super* productive done anymore and pretty much gave up. Eh, there’s always next weekend… right?
Seems like we all have the same problem!!!
Don’t you love that we’re not alone in our lack o’ motivation!?!
YES! I totally get that. When I was a working woman, I was always super motivated on Friday nights. And then I would gradually slow down on Saturday and Sunday. Now I find that I don’t get motivated at all. But I have mastered the art of relaxation
I think I need to master the art of relaxation. Except that I probably wouldn’t master it very well… especially since right now I’m trying to pull off working a full time job, part time job, blogging here, starting a new blog *and* planning a conference. Oy… now that I read all that, why didn’t I just sleep all weekend and love every minute of it?!
I could have written this exact same post. We did get a lot accomplished this weekend, just not everything that needed to be done. And I’m ok with that. I need at least one lazy day on the weekend!
I’m starting to accept the idea of relaxing one day on the weekends… I need it to recover. I just wasn’t prepared for the complete lack of motivation!
Julie,
I would do more of that if I could, too. That is what weekends are all about—regrouping, relaxing, and doing things you want to do. Cleaning can wait if you need a few mental health/personal days, you know? I want to write a blog post for tomorrow, but nothing’s gelling in my head. ugh. could be because there are a bunch of hooligans running around and hubs has his friends over watching football.
Erin – I think the quiet this weekend did do me some good. I have a number of blog posts “rolling around” in my head.
Really I need to clean because in the end it will help my mental health. I am one that is at my best when things are picked up and put away. Even in my relaxing.
(And PS… thanks for looking at / watching my Weight Loss journey! I can’t wait to meet you too.)
I could not agree more! I always think I need to get everything on earth done the weekends that the boys are with their dad but sometimes I need to do nothing more than laze around like a slug and get some much needed R&R!
You totally deserve the R&R!! And hope that you had a great weekend of it too!
I thought I was going to write all my posts for this week and start a couple for next week as well. And then I decided to make brownies, call a friend, and read a book instead. Might as well relax before resuming the work week!
Are we the same person?! With the exception of my brownie failure (which you can see in today’s post)… it totally sounds like it!
Can’t wait to meet you next week friend.
Weekends are meant for relaxing and catching up with friends too. I work from home but most of my friends are off on the weekends and that is the only time I get to see them. It’s all good to get some R & R, you need it to get the energy for the week ahead.
You are so right! I did get to see a friend this weekend – and many others on twitter (if that counts).
I’m actually pretty energized today – so maybe the R&R worked for me!
