Creating my dream board…

For a while now on twitter (and for my 101 things to do in 1001 days list) I’ve been talking about creating a dream board for myself.

What this represents {to me at least} is what I would love to see in my life.

And this is how I made it…

So I started out at Walmart buying this Elmer’s Display Board… it’s a trifold – so it’s more/less self standing.

Then I got some supplies out…

And it didn’t hurt that I had 3 years of Oprah magazines laying around the house…

So I cut out a bunch of things that meant something to me… pictures… words… phrases… and started working on the board.

*do you like my “easel”??

I initially was only going to paint the edge yellow, but decided shortly after starting that it really felt like the whole board needed to have some color to it. I think it really added a nice dimension.

I placed the pictures, words and phrases around the board in sections… family, home, life, career, self, and travels. And before I knew it, I was done with the project.

Each of these things… husband, family, travels, writing career, beauty in my home, and other things that I desire for myself and desire to believe about myself… are things that I will continue to pray for… things that I will continue to have faith that God will provide to me – in His time. And as I was doing this it really helped me visualize some things that I have been working through. It really helped me define who I am and what I believe about myself.

I love how it turned out – and that it now sits on top of a small book case in my bedroom where I can see it all of the time.

Have you ever created anything like this?

This post was written and linked up with the Elmer’s “Can You Top This?” project that I found out about through Sarah’s blog. As a side bonus to completing this stellar project, I will now be entered to win a $100 gift card to Walmart.

Whoa. 11 years of a magazine. Yikes.

Tomorrow I’m dropping the remainder of the O Mag’s off to a recycling center. :) Happy to get rid of them now.

As I tweeted out: I LOVE IT (and everything it represents). Wonderful that you could knock something off your list with this project!

Yay!! I’m so proud of you! You are one of those few people who combine ‘dreaming’ and ‘doing’ – most of us are only able to accomplish one or the other :)

LOVE it. It’s so important to have a visual reminder of your goals. I have a “journal” type book that I frequently cut/paste magazine clippings or write quotes in. I use them for writing prompts. I also make LISTS (duh) in there.

I need to get started on my #CanYouTopThis project! You and Sarah definitely inspired me to get it going!

No, I haven’t done this, but it gave me a great idea of something I can do with those great display boards! You have a great idea. I believe in having visuals to help us accomplish things in our lives. I’m a very visual person.

Awesome! When I sold Mary Kay we would do stuff like this and it was always a great reminder of what the ultimate goals were. It’s always nice to have a visual because sometimes you just can’t see it. Great job!

Mine is hard to explain – I call it my “art” The main part are these big white thorns from a desert bush – and strewn about are patches, flower petals, pieces of wood, little rocks, a cat collar, a precious moments figurine, etc…

things that mean nothing to anyone else – but the world to me – pieces of me, symbols of my walk with God, bits of heart left behind, bits of hope pointing ahead – it’s not really art – it’s just me.
