What a productive weekend…

So most weekends recently I haven’t felt a huge sense of being productive. I’m not entirely sure why that is, but come Monday morning… I’m always feeling like I could have — or maybe should have — done more.

Not this weekend.

As you will see from the (multitudes) of pictures – sorry about that, by the way – it was good. Very good.

So the first thing I did this weekend was make a plan. Because as most of you know I am a total planner. P.L.A.N.N.E.R. And of course because I am all about crossing something off the list (obviously the easiest, quickest thing) right away… I went to PostCrossing.com* to start whittling away at my 101 Things to do in 1001 Days list. And I have sent out 5 post cards as of Saturday morning! (They went to Russia, China, Thailand, the Netherlands and Finland… and one to Tracie as well because we were chatting about it on twitter.)

Postcards mailed...

*PostCrossing.com is a website that will link you with others around the world to send and receive postcards.

There was also some enlightenment that happened on Friday night. I am going to be changing a couple of things with my list. The first is to change the trip to Australia/New Zealand to a trip to Alaska. I do still want to go to Oz… however with the trip to Europe I *really* want to do, along with the other travel stuff… I don’t think it’s going to be possible, unless I win the lottery — and because I don’t play the lottery… that could be a problem. :)

The other changes that have been made are 1) No more cake decorating. It’s just asking for trouble with me trying to maintain my weight loss and working with something I love. I might do it still if I see that there’s a Wilton class nearby (because seriously, how cool would it be if I could make and decorate a stellar birthday cake for someone!), but not for this list. I’m replacing it with listing and researching my ancestors and where they came from in the Netherlands — back 4 generations on all the sides of my family! (Not that I’m making this any easier on myself!)

And 2) after a LOT of debate in my head, and with my budget… I’m discontinuing my membership at the gym I love so much. At least for now. It’s *really* SUPER expensive and I’m just not going enough to justify the cost of it all. As a replacement, instead of working out at the gym for 30 days… I’m thinking about doing (and probably will) P90x. I saw the infomercial for it while I was in Detroit this past week, and think I want to do something like it for a challenge.

Anyway… back to what I was doing this weekend (sorry I got a little off track… and long.)

I went to IKEA last week and purchased some wall sticker decals to “spruce up” my bedroom. I have a couple of walls that are still a bit bare (for me) and I needed a little bit more for them. And this…

wall decals - 1

…turned out to be the perfect thing! Just look…

wall decal - finished!

Ok I know you can’t see it in proportion to the wall, but IT LOOKS AWESOME. So cool. (I was watching “Couples Retreats” whilst doing this… OK movie.)

Then, (kinda) because I felt like I didn’t fulfill the whole buy something at IKEA and put it together philosophy (they didn’t have anything in the size I needed), I went to Target and found the cabinet that I wanted. I started putting it together LATE on Friday night, starting out like this…

organizer - 1

…building it to this…

organizer - 2

…and finally finishing it the next day (because at midnight, I didn’t want my neighbors complaining about me hammering away)…

organizer - finished!

(Sorry for the blurry photos… I didn’t really pay attention to them as I was taking them. Gotta work on that.)

Then on Sunday I thought I should go check out what kind of coloring books I could find. I didn’t (where can I find a STANDARD size coloring book… sheesh) and instead bought and started my 1000 piece puzzle…

Puzzle step 1

…which will likely take me a while to finish. It’s a “Thomas Kinkade” puzzle. I intend on gluing, matting, framing and hanging it after it’s completed.

So that’s the weekend for me… what did you do? :)

You got TONS of stuff accomplished! And I love that you are re-thinking your list to figure out what works best.

I hope you don’t plan on eating at that table for a while! I can’t imagine completing a 1000 piece puzzle!

Liz – I only ever use my table to do random “office type” stuff or craft projects, rarely eating. Nothing that I can’t do in my living room! :)

Sounds like an awesome weekend! And you went to Ikea, haha! :-) The stickers look good!

And I have really been wanting to buy that storage from Target for my living room.

I am in LOVE with your wall decals!!
You definitely had a much more productive weekend than I did. I spent a lot of time sleeping. It was very needed.

You got so much done this weekend! I’m impressed. (and excited about my postcard…I’m picking mine up tonight to get addressed and sent-be on the lookout)

That wall decal is so cute!

Thomas Kinkade puzzles are beautiful…and a lot of work! Now I am kind of wanting to get one of my own. It has been a long time since I’ve done a puzzle that had more than 100 pieces and didn’t feature a cartoon character.

I spent most of the weekend staying up with a friend doing a 24 hour blogathon and then recuperating from staying up.

Thanks a lot! I feel like a total slacker now. All I did was not kill the kids.

Wow. You were amazingly productive. Good luck getting all of your things completed. I keep meaning to join Postcrossing. Maybe I finally will. I love the wall decal. So pretty!

That is a lot of stuff to do!

I love the wall decal! I wish we had an IKEA near us. I’ve never been, but imagine I could do some MAJOR damage to my budget there!

Oh, you can find regular sized coloring books at WalMart, dollar stores, any place like that!!

You had a way productive weekend! I’d still be putting the storage system together. I swear, I lose screws, hammers and screwdrivers while sitting still. It’s amazing how much time I spend looking for what I put down.
I need to become more of a planner. It must be what makes you productive folks so productive! :)

I love postcrossing… I have doing this for a few months now and I got 6 postcards sent out this weekend, which means you and I were doing the same things on Saturday in two different parts of the world… awesome!

Seems like we have quite a bit in common!! I also have a 101 Things in 1,001 Days list. One of the things on mine was to send some PostCrossing cards, which I recently blogged about (but without the fun photos, unfortunately). And I’ve also built my own shelves to fit my needs.
