So I finally got around to updating myself on all the blogs that I follow regularly… and subsequently learned that FatGrlSlim has “tagged” me in her blog to answer the following questions. I can’t say I am as excited about it as she was, but thought it looked like a pretty good thing to waste a little time with…
5 things found in your bag:
- My “before” WW picture… because inevitably someone will ask to see it pretty much every week.
- Calendar… I really can’t live without this thing. I think my brain would go into serious overload if I didn’t have it.
- Camera – because you never know when that perfect photo op will come along.
- Phone… even though it rarely rings!
- Pens. If you know me, you know I love pens. I think it’s an addiction.
5 favorite things in your room (bedroom)
- TIVO… because I really don’t like watching just “anything” on television anymore.
- Tons ‘o packing materials for the 3-day (yes, it is all across the room – along with my ultra cute red-polka dot bag!)… ok, maybe not a favorite or even a permanent fixture, but definitely worth noting since it is taking up about 1/2 of my bedroom!
- My bed & pillows (ok, I kinda stole this from FGS… but I really do LOVE my “Sleep Number” bed. There is nothing else out there like it.)
- My computer – I guess that could be anywhere since it’s a notebook, but it’s still one of my favorite things.
- Stampin’ Up supplies for my card making… if I ever decide to get creative again.
5 things I have always wanted to do
- Travel to all 50 states (see something special in each) and to at least 6 of the 7 continents (I don’t know how I would do Antartica as of yet.)
- Buy clothes that are in the single digits (almost there!!!)
- Be a good cook… and like what I am making (I used to be known as a notoriously “picky” eater.)
- Live in a place other than Holland, Michigan
- Become famous (even if it’s only 15 minutes of fame) for something good I have done in the world.
5 things I am currently into
- Walking & the Breast Cancer 3-day
- Learning about how I can better myself and my “lifestyle” so that when I reach my WW goal, I don’t fall into “old” patterns and habits.
- Planning a trip to NYC in March 2009 with my cousin! (Oh, and a wkd-trip to Mackinac Island with her too!)
- Playing “Scrabulous” and “Make Me A Celebrity” on Facebook… anyone else want to join in the fun?!?
- Working (does this really count???)… I am actually pretty “into” a project a work that will help make the office more efficient. I can’t wait to see this new client management system up and running.

I survived the hardest weekend for the 3-day training… and actually made it a little worse for myself on the first day! Here’s a recap of what I have done this weekend with my walking…
Friday I intended to walk about 18 miles, but because of the night before (we didn’t get home from the baseball games until after 1am), I didn’t end up starting the walk until 10:30 that morning. Well, because of the fact that I was “afraid” that my route was too short, I kept adding little things here and there… well, after I was all done I decided to “drive out” my route… and it ended up being close to 20 miles! Yikes! And Oops! No wonder I was as sore as I was!! (And yes, that was 20 miles by myself… about 16 of it with my iPod keeping me company – the other 4 was walking to retrieve the iPod from work because I left it there on Thursday.)
Saturday morning my group was planning to walk a 10 miler, so I got up early and walked with them. It was really good for me and nice to be able to spend time walking with the group again and getting to know them, catching up and just plain chatting. After we were done, I wanted to finish out my “18/15″ weekend, so I went to a local park and got out my gear again. I walked from this park to the end of the road and back – another 3+ miles!
33 miles down this weekend… over 300 total thus far… and I am feeling GREAT!!! I think I can officially say that I am ready for the event. I will keep finishing out my training – especially since it is helping my weight loss journey quite a bit! – and I am feeling good about being prepared. (The right column has total miles & it is updated more frequently… and now contains supporter information for the 3-day!)
I also wanted to update everyone on the progress that I have made toward my goal of reaching $5,000 for my fundraising before the event. I am almost there! As of today (7/5) I have raised $4,581!!! While I am almost to my goal, I have a lot of fundraising to go. I want to see how much I can raise now to fund more research and eradicate this disease once and for all!
After sitting here typing this… I feel like I should sign off this writing with “walking fool”… J
me.
This past Thursday night, my parents and I went to a West Michigan Whitecaps game. Because of rain and (hurricane like) severe storms the night before, the one game we had expected to see had now turned into a double header (7 innings each game). YAY!! Thanks to my dad for awesome planning… we had great seats right behind the dugout for the visiting team.
As we drove into the ballpark, we noticed that it was “Comcast” night and the first 1000 people got free t-shirts… guess what! I got a “comcastic” whitecaps t-shirt (it is an extra large and I kind of drown in it now!). Some of you know the “love” that I have for this company and it’s reliability with my internet service at work. As of recent it’s been better, but while the company is trying to turn the “It’s Comcastic” into a positive marketing slogan… those of us that use them regularly know the true meaning of the word… but I digress. Getting the t-shirt was funny… especially since I can’t wear it anywhere! J
One highlight from the night was the visiting “San Diego Chicken”. Being able to see it perform and interact with the teams, umpire, and just how much it really gets the crowd into the game was very enjoyable. If you ever get a chance to see him in action… GO FOR IT! Another highlight was that it was Jimmy Buffett night for the Whitecaps during the second game… complete with “Buffett” like uniforms for the team. Fun!
The games were fun to watch… Whitecaps won both games! The first game was slow moving… but lasted the normal 7 innings. The second game moved faster, however… after the first 7 innings, the game was tied and it lasted another 5 after that. This means that we sat at the ball park for 19 innings. That is a long time… and I learned that my baseball threshold is 12 innings total. After that point, I just sat there watching people around me. The game no longer was interesting to me. I do really like baseball… but just not that much baseball in one night!
On a food note… while many foods at the ballpark aren’t good, if you plan and work through your day – I truly believe going to the ballpark is do-able for anyone on the Weight Watcher’s plan. But you must plan and do your research! I did this and successfully stayed within my points that night… so I am really happy about this. One thing I was a little disappointed by was that the Whitecaps didn’t have the Fat Free/Sugar Free Fudge Dippin’ Dots. That would have been 1 point for a little ice cream treat! Another very important thing I learned about food at the ballpark is to always read the nutritional value on packaging if it is provided. Did you know that a Melting Moment Ice Cream Sandwich is 880 calories! That means I would have to walk for 6-7 miles in order to undo that damage. Yikes & ouch!
The last part of the night was that the Whitecaps had fireworks at the ballpark. Great show… and actually they didn’t start until almost midnight! So I can officially say that I saw fireworks on the 4th of July!
